Garment workers fight for compensation for families of the 22 dead, killed in H&M fire
Memorandum To H&M Submitted - National Garment Workers Federation, Bangladesh
15 Days ULTIMATUM
National Garment Workers Federation submitted memorandum to the H& M, Bangladesh office on 1st Jun,2010 for the greater compensation of 22 dead workers of Garib and Garib.
In the memorandum NGWF thanks H& M for its different positive activities in Bangladesh as well as second biggest souching from Bangladesh.
BUT
NGWF totally disaggrre with the process of the assessment of compensation for 22 dead. NGWF argued that - compensation must be assessed in the way of " LOSS OF EARNING ". They mentioned in this way assessment made for the victim of SPECTRUM and for the one dead
worker of MATRIX SWEATER too. So why it is not possible for the case of GARIB and H&M?
NGWF also mentioned in the case of payment of the compensation for the victim of SPECTRUM, NGWF its self also the critisism because it took a lot of time. Thats the reason to avoid this delay - for the victim of MATRIX SWEATER compensation will be made in a time or in 2 times. So for the case of GARIB also can use this.
As a result of earlier communication , NGWF sifted the date from 30th May to 1st Jun 2010. And not in the way of Garment workers walk - In but with a deligation of NGWF with 6 members
including Amirul Haque Amin and Mis Safia Pervin president and general secretary. From the side of H&M -- Mr. Manish Chawla- Chief representative ,> Mr. Basirun Nabi Khan - regional manager of COC and Ms Payal Jain - COC for Bangladesh were present.
In the discussion , NGWF mentioned - in the process of H&M by the Save the Children , they only covered the children under 18 and the older mothers. But what about the others - who lost her husbands etc. They also mentioned - payment of this Loss of Earning is not very
difficult because according to the Law of Bangladesh and Muslim Law , the heritage is very clear and its mentioned who will get how much percentage. In the memorandum , NGWF mentioned - its campaign will continue up to achive and mentioned 15 days ultimatum to consider.
In solidarity
Amirul Haque Amin
President
