URGENT ACTION: Make the Co-op more co-operative!

image001.jpg

As a supermarket that claims to put its "ethics in action", we're really surprised that the Co-op doesn't currently support a new watchdog to make supermarkets play fair overseas, as recommended by a government inquiry.

Millions of women workers around the world could get a better deal, but only if all the supermarkets, including the Co-op, stop dragging their heels and sign up to it to make it happen. Supermarkets are negotiating with the Competition Commission right now.

Public support from the Co-op will put pressure on the other supermarkets to follow their lead.

Subject: I want the Co-op to put its 'ethics in action'

Dear Mr Marks,

As a Co-op customer (delete if not appropriate), I am very disappointed to see that the Co-op is not supporting the proposed supermarket watchdog. It is recommended by the Competition Commission and campaigned for by many groups such as ActionAid.

I expect the Co-op to live up to your claims and really be an ethical leader among UK supermarkets.

The Co-op must publicly support the watchdog at this crucial time in the negotiations.

I look forward to hearing from you soon.

Yours sincerely,
