NO PROGRESS WITH DISNEY ON HAOWEI WORKERS

SACOM's last meeting with Disney on September 13 about labor disputes at Haowei Toys produced no results (see http://www.sacom.hk/html/uploads/Haowei%20Toys%20%20DISNEY%20Sep2007%20S...).

The five hundred remaining workers at Haowei continue to demand fair recompense and information about factory relocation.

VIOLATIONS AT OTHER DISNEY SUPPLIERS EXPOSED
Since September, SACOM has exposed multiple labour violations at two other Disney suppliers, Tianyu and Yonglida Toys, both owned by the same company. SACOM reports, among other things, that wages have been withheld, overtime has been unpaid, working hours are excessive and living conditions in the dormitories are poor. In addition, Tianyu management has falsified contracts and concealed labour violations from social auditors. Tianyu received the International Council of Toy Industries (ICTI) Seal of Compliance in June 2005, and it has since been renewed. On 8 Nov, SACOM met with representatives of (ICTI) to call on it to review thoroughly its audit system and certification program.
Disney has thus far refused to talk to SACOM about conditions at Tianyu.

PLEASE SIGN THE PETITION: SACOM continues to call on organisations and individuals to sign its petition to Disney if you haven't already.
