The Central America Women’s Network (CAWN) has invited Nicaraguan women’s rights activists Gladys Urtecho Cuadra and Noemí Flores Rivas from the women’s organisation Movimiento de Mujeres Trabajadoras y Desempleadas ‘Maria Elena Cuadra’ (MEC) to the UK in March 2007.

Noemí Flores Rivas has worked with MEC for 12 years to defend the rights of women working in Nicaraguan sweatshops. She worked in textile factories for 9 ½ years. Gladys Urtecho Cuadra works on empowering women through Economic Literacy trainings. She was active in MEC’s recent campaigning against the outlawing of therapeutic abortion.
