07 / 14 Labour mvt conference on climate change: planning meeting Start: 12:45 Labour Movement Conference on Climate Change is set for February 2008. There will be an open planning meeting for this conference in Birmingham on Saturday 14 July. The venue is Carrs Lane Church, Carrs Lane, Birmingham City Centre, and the start time is 12. 45pm. Please do all you can to publicise this meeting amongst your union friends and comrades. We will need to take decisions on the venue, budget, structure and publicity for the February event at this meeting. 07 / 20 London Colombia embassy protest for workers' rights Start: 13:00 End: 15:01 On the Friday 20th July (Colombia’s ‘National Day’) at 1pm the Solidarity Federation will be holding a protest outside the Columbian embassy (3 Hans Crescent SW1. Tube: Knightsbridge. Between Sloane Street and Brompton Road. It's about a mile from Parliament.) as part of a international day of action to highlight the ongoing war waged by the Colombian state on trade unionists. We call on everyone who believes in the right of unionists to organise without the fear of death to join us on the picket and show solidarity with our fellow workers. more info

We will be campaigning for Labour councils to include a Living Wage in their procurement terms and for the Labour party to adopt a Living Wage as its official policy. The launch of the campaign will take place on 24th July 7pm in Committee Room 9, House of Commons. John McDonnell will be among those speaking. more info

Everyone is welcome to attend the debates and discussions, which are very informal. Our planned programme of discussions includes such things as Sex Work, Women in the Russian Revolution, Emma Goldman, What will Socialism Be Like, Engels Revisted. We continue our programme on Friday 27 July with a discussion on Equal Pay In 1968, a group of female sewing machinists went on strike against a sex-biased grading structure. The 1970 Equal Pay Act followed shortly after. more info
